2018 Volvo XC90 in Buford

Meet the 21st Century's Most Awarded Premium Utility -- The 2018 Volvo XC90 SUV

For decades, Volvo models have cultivated a hard-earned reputation for being among the safest vehicles on the road. But where this identity makes for a variety of excellent family vehicles, the recent emphasis on luxury and technological innovation has resulted in an SUV we are truly proud to sell. Meet the 2018 Volvo XC90, a three-row luxury utility that has managed to become the most awarded premium option in a few short years.

Dimensions of the 2018 XC90
The 2018 XC90 is the Swedish automaker's flagship SUV-a designation reserved for full-size options with three-rows that exemplify the pinnacle of a brand's design, safety, and innovative prowess. But packing that much into a vehicle means it's going to be big. Standing 69.9 inches tall and 194.9 inches long (117.5 inches wheelbase), the 2018 XC90 has presence. But along with that comes the ability to comfortably seat seven, or accommodate up to 85.7 cubic feet of cargo-a rating that stands near the top of it's class.

Volvo XC90 - Standard Safety You Don't Have to Pay For
As we mentioned, you'll find safety innovations in other flagship SUVs, with one crucial difference: you have to pay more for them. But Volvo's emphasis on safety and the 2018 XC90's flagship status means you get some of the best systems available without needing to add on features.

For example, the base Momentum trim comes standard with blind-spot monitoring, auto-dimming mirrors, lane keeping aid, a rear-view camera with parking sensors, and Pilot Assist II-an adaptive cruise control system that takes the effort out of steering, braking, and maintaining speed with less hassle than an adaptive cruise control system.

But where you certainly won't find a comparable offering to Pilot Assist on a competitor's standard feature's roster, you also won't find complimentary Volvo On Call assistance, or pre-paid Volvo service either. But where the best and most useful features come standard, cool-factor gear like the optional head-up display and 360 degree camera are nice to have, too.

Confidence That Stands Out - Volvo XC90 Design
When it launched a few short years ago, the XC90 debuted Volvo's first independently-developed platform in over a decade-called Scalable Product Architecture (SPA)-as well as modern styling that has since made it to the rest of the 90 Series range, and all-new XC60. The result is a luxury SUV that emanates prestige, presence, and craftsmanship. But the XC90's design holds more than eye-catching cues like its formidable grille and "Thor's Hammer" LED daytime running lights. A standard power tailgate and roof rails bring function to the look, too.

A Luxury and Versatility Sanctum - Volvo XC90 Interior
You might have seen the XC90's cabin described as a sanctuary of Scandinavian design tradition and high-quality materials. To us, there's no better way to describe it. Imagined and furnished by luxury designer Thomas Ingenlath (who also developed the latest exterior styling found on our new Volvo models), the XC90's spacious cabin features clean, simple, and uncluttered looks, augmented by various leathers, aluminum or wood inlays, and the natural light of the standard panoramic sunroof. Offsetting the old-world craftsmanship is a beautiful, intuitive Sensus Connect display for all infotainment and climate control functions.

A Choice in Motivation - Volvo XC90 Engines
Volvo also launched a new generation of engines with the XC90, which have been heralded as some of the industry's most unique. All three can be found on the brand's flagship with standard front-wheel drive or optional all-wheel drive, depending on engine. The base engine is the T5, comprised of a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four with 250 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Up next is the T6, which adds a supercharger for an output of 316 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The T8 Plug-in Hybrid is the top-shelf engine, which combines a turbocharged, supercharged inline-four with an electric motor for a total system output of 400 horsepower and 472 lb-ft of torque.
