Volvo is renowned for crafting vehicles with first-class accommodations, engaging driving dynamics, and cutting-edge amenities. The automaker's commitment to providing its customers the best possible user experience has led to unexpected collaboration with Epic Games, a video game and software developer known for its innovative computer graphics engine, Unreal Engine.

Widely considered the most advanced 3D creation tool available, Unreal Engine is capable of rendering graphics nearly indistinguishable from real life. The technology, which boasts applications far beyond video games, will be used by Volvo Cars to develop digital in-car interfaces that will render 3D graphics in real-time. Volvo's initial focus is on the Driver Information Module, a display that provides the driver with relevant driving information and infotainment features.

Thanks to Unreal Engine technology, the next generation of Volvo cars will provide customers with stunningly high-quality graphics. By pairing the Unreal Engine with the immense computing power of the third-gen Snapdragon® Cockpit Platforms, Volvo endeavors to set a new standard in graphics and infotainment system performance. Volvo claims its next-gen infotainment system will be more than twice as fast as the previous generation, with graphics rendering up to ten times faster.

"When you bring interactive, high-resolution graphics running in real-time into the car, you open the door to a vast range of new ways to inform and entertain everyone inside," said Heiko Wenczel, Epic Games Director of Automotive and HMI for Unreal Engine. "Volvo Cars' deeply talented design and product development teams have grasped this opportunity to do something fresh that will keep evolving with exciting new features that take advantage of the capabilities of Unreal Engine."
